(Disclaimer: That’s NOT me and that’s NOT my kitchen.)

How to leave your kitchen in 10 minutes?

I googled a simple answer on my phone.

10-minute recipes(60-minute preparation),

quick cooking hacks,

and 1 million tips from household experts I found.

How to leave your kitchen in 10 minutes?

I mumbled in front of my husband.

With 5 new kitchen appliances he ordered( to make my life easy),

fancy fryers, mixers, choppers,

I end up spending more time in my kitchen than I desired.

How to leave your kitchen in 10 minutes?

My grandmother heard me ask my mother.

“Heat stove, pour oil, put vegetable, salt, spice, and everything nice.”

“I could make 3 meals for 50 people together.”

Said, my grandmother.

But forgot to tell me the time she took to plan the curries,

wash the dishes,

and cut the vegetables.

How to leave your kitchen in 10 minutes?

I mentioned in front of my friend.

Keep a maid

or household help,

and you don’t have to enter the kitchen.

“So you don’t?”, I asked her, hating my life.

Nope, apart from the time I spend

asking my maid to mend

the dishes she doesn't get right,

or when every dish she makes

tastes the same every time.

But I see your pictures on WhatsApp and Instagram,

and the breads you bake

and the fritters you fry,

and honestly, I envy you

for I cannot even try.

How to leave your kitchen in 10 minutes?

With this determination, I tried.

The Kitchen Queen( self-proclaimed, in our kingdom of two),

wearing her apron armor,

and holding her sword spatula,

I stepped into the field

to compete with myself.

Multitasking and juggling;

chopping and hopping;

stirring and tasting,

side by side.

And with a few cuts on my thumb,

some spilled bowls,

a burnt pan and finger

and a messy stove

and twenty dirty utensils,

I succeeded to leave the kitchen in 10 minutes.

And lucky to have a few rewarding minutes

of ‘me-time’ in my hands,

that I saved in the kitchen,

I moved to fold the laundry

and wipe the spots on the bathroom mirror,

and looking into it,

I thought to myself,

“How to leave your bathroom in 10 minutes?”
